The Psalms of Ascents (Psalm 120-134) have existed as a pilgrim psalter for the Judeo-Christian faith for over 2 millenia.  They are a unique collection of psalms, shorter than average – with a distinctive ‘folky-ness’ that were sung by jewish pilgrims as they traveled up to Jerusalem for the great feasts.

Our church (Christ the King Presbyterian Church) was awarded a grant from the Calvin Institute of Christian Worship (funded in part by the Lilly Endownment) in May 2009.  We are going to spend a year immersing ourselves in a spiritual pilgrimage – taking all of our signposts from the Psalms of Ascents with the help of cultural translators in linguists, musicians, visual artists and pastors.  Our goal is to recapture the relevance and power of the psalms to shape and form our faith in the modern life. You can read a one page summary of our grant here.

Read Them: Psalm 120-134 ESV or download a PDF of them.
