Psalms of Ascents – Christ the King Presbyterian Church

Song of Ascents (c) 2007 Aaron Collier

Thank you to Justin Taylor and The Gospel Coalition for featuring our work on the Psalms this year sponsored by a Worship Renewal Grant from the Calvin Institute of Christian Worship (funded in part by the Lilly Endowment).

You can search for psalms, and you can also visit our site dedicated to the resources we are developing on the psalms of ascents at Christ the King Presbyterian Church in Raleigh, NC for our year long series called “Songs for the Sojourn.”

The Psalms of Ascents are a wonderful place to begin a journey with the psalms.  They are a unique collection of psalms that jewish pilgrims sang on their way to celebrate passover in Jerusalem.  They are often referred to as “the psalter within the psalter”.  In fact they would have been Jesus’ songbook and the psalms he would have sung on his way to Jerusalem before his death and resurrection.

Psalm 134(ESV) – A Song of Ascents

1 Come, bless the Lord, all you servants of the Lord,
who stand by night in the house of the Lord!
2 Lift up your hands to the holy place
and bless the Lord!

3 May the Lord bless you from Zion,
he who made heaven and earth!
