HW Songs #1 – He Never Said a Mumblin’ Word

"Christ and Pilate" - Georges Rouault

Today begins a week long series looking at songs and texts that meditate on Christ’s suffering between Palm Sunday and Easter.

Nestled into The Welcome Wagon‘s excellent debut CD are two traditional hymns from the ‘Holy Week’ section of The Presbyterian Hymnal (PCUSA).  The first one “He Never Said a Mumblin’ Word” was also borrowed for inclusion on Bifrost Arts debut CD “Come O Spirit“.  Great lyrics and music to meditate on as we move with Jesus between his Triumphal Entry, to his crucifixion and Resurrection.

He Never Said a Mumblin’ Word
mp3 | leadsheet

They led Him to Pilate’s bar
Not a word, not a word, not a word, not a word
They led Him to Pilate’s bar
Not a word, not a word, not a word, not a word
They led Him to Pilate’s bar
But He never said a mumblin’ word
Not a word, not a word, not a word, not a word

They all cried, “Crucify Him”…

They nailed Him to the tree…

They pierced Him in the side…

He hung His head and died…
