O Come, Messiah, Come by Bifrost Arts Music

Salvation Is Created cover art

This is one of my new favorite advent songs.  Last year we lead each week with this as our gathering song. It is a simple and profound reminder of the heart of advent.  It stokes the fire of advent in our hearts that Christ has come, and we worship with expectation of his return.    We performed it a bit quicker than the CD version.

The words and tune are a wonderful brief meditation on a longer french carol “O Come, Divine Messiah” and the tune VENEZ, DIVIN MESSIE. You can see these at Hymnary. Thanks Jed Slabadoh for the reminder!

Messiah (Bifrost)
mp3 leadsheet

Oh come, oh come Messiah
Oh come our Alleluia

Oh sing, oh sing Hosanna
Oh come, Messiah, come!

Comfort and joy, Alpha, Omega, He
Sorrow and toil, no longer rulers be.

(c) 2010 New Jerusalem Music

——————————

1. O come, divine Messiah!
The world in silence waits the day
When hope shall sing its triumph,
And sadness flee away.

2. Dear Savior haste; Come, come to earth,
Dispel the night and show your face,
And bid us hail the dawn of grace.

3. O come, divine Messiah!
The world in silence waits the day
When hope shall sing its triumph,
And sadness flee away.

4. O Christ, whom nations sigh for,
Whom priest and prophet long foretold,
Come break the captive fetters;
Redeem the long-lost fold.

5. You come in peace and meekness,
And lowly will your cradle be;
All clothed in human weakness
Shall we your Godhead see.
