Week 3 – Come Light Our Hearts – Advent 2018

Bellwether_journal_cover_stamp-11Welcome to Advent 2018

This year we are going to blog our way through the whole season of Advent & Christmas sharing one song a day! In week 1 we looked at advent songs that draw from OT language. In week 2 we are looking at gorgeous Advent texts that have been retuned. In Week 3 we will explore newer texts/tunes that we’ve sung (or hope too!).

From the liner notes to the Rain for Roots version (2014):
I wrote this song around and for our Advent liturgy at church last year. In planning our services week to week, I found that good longing-centric songs for corporate singing are hard to come by. I have found also that “Come Light Our Hearts” translates well to the season of Lent and other times of expectation and waiting. Thankful for the opportunity this song gives to ask expectantly and repeatedly. I am hopeful that we wait for His light to meet us where we are, through many seasons of life. ~Sandra

There are TWO recorded versions of this song.  The Rain for Roots versions is a more upbeat and the God’s Highway version is slower, and more meditative.

LYRICS:

For you, O Lord, our souls in stillness wait
For you, O Lord, our souls in stillness wait
Truly our hope is in You
Truly our hope is in You

O Lord of life, our only hope
Your radiance shines
On all who look — to You in the dark
Emmanuel come, come light our hearts

For you, O Lord, our souls in stillness wait
For you, O Lord, our souls in stillness wait
Truly our hope is in You
Truly our hope is in You

O Joy above all other loves
In you we find more than enough
We come as we are, O heal and restore
Come light our hearts.
